So its been a on going battle for many moon, and is still not resolved. The choose of tires. Personally i have never really go involved in this debate. But i have a confession, i to have now jumped on the band-wagon.
Recently i was faced with the challenge of replacing my front tire. So i looked around, asked a few people and soon found a result. Now i am one of those people that believe in value for money and the Maxxis Aspen is truly the best buy around.
For R350 (Prices differ per shop) you are getting
: 400 grams
: Great Control
: Best value for money
So just before you think this is the tire for you there are a few things to take in to consideration. The Maxxis Aspen is not a aggressive tire , to be honest it is far from it, and today I proved it by landing a drop off and turning for the section ahead, i found my self lying in the dirt, to get up find i had burped my tire, but to the extent that it had come off the rim.The side walls of the Aspen are also very thin yet haven't had any problems , touch wood.
The handling is rather good considering the treed this feather weight is running. you'd be pinning it down some tight single track and the aspen would hold you, slipping is not a factor when it comes to the Aspen.
So for R350 you get a super light tire, some sweet grip and a tire that can burp at you if placed under heavy stress. But i would suggest this tire to anyone that is looking for a good set of fly-weights,as not only my self my many people have given this tire a high rating.
So if this tire meets your agenda, well then this is the tire for you.
